The history of honors and awards

Whether in sports, art and culture, politics or in companies and clubs – awards and the presentation of awards have become indispensable in these areas. People are honored for outstanding achievements, social commitment is recognized and trophies and medals are awarded in sporting competitions.

Even if trophies and honors belong in today’s meritocracy and are an integral part of social interaction, the presentation of awards dates back to ancient times. After a successful battle, trophies in the form of warriors were often made in Greece from the captured weapons. Magnificent statues and stone columns were very popular with the Roman generals, which can still be admired in various museums today. The best known is probably the olive wreath that the respective winner received at the Olympic Games in ancient times. Even if this award seems quite simple from today’s point of view, this honor was one of the most important of the time.

Trophies in the form of a cup, which are awarded today for example in sailing or tennis, also have their origins in the Middle Ages. At that time, the winners of a sporting event were honored with a chalice. Awards are therefore not a modern invention, but are based on a long tradition.

Custom Awards

Awards and custom plaque are held in almost every segment of society these days. This is intended to make a statement and honor special achievements. In the field of sports, Olympic medals are awarded and winners’ trophies are presented in Formula 1 and the Bundesliga. But you don’t necessarily have to look at the international sports stage for sporting honors. Trophies and prizes are also awarded in smaller local sports clubs.

Companies also receive or give awards. A company can be recognized for its outstanding commitment. This can refer to a wide variety of areas such as sustainable production, environmentally conscious action or special employee motivation.

A company can also give awards to its employees. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a company anniversary, a successful project completion or other special achievements – there are countless ways to recognize employees with an honor.

An award is a sign of appreciation and should therefore always go hand in hand with a high-quality award. An exquisite trophy made of acrylic glass or metal with an individual laser engraving underlines the importance of such an award. Many offers a wide range of awards and trophies that are perfect for sports or corporate events.
